Maxsea 12.5.3 Bugs
I have spent many months arguing with Maxsea about the stability of their product. Recently I discovered a very worrying bug that could potentially cause a user serious issue. Basically in version 12.5.3 with CMAP charts waypoints and routes plotted move about and do not remain where the user thinks they are.
A demonstration can be found here: http://www.ninjod.org/static/Maxsea12.5.3bugs.pdf
I have strongly suggested on a few occasions now that Maxsea write something up on their website informing users of the issue. To date they have done nothing so I am posting this.
NOTE..To be clear this is only relevant for users of 12.5.3 that use CMAP charts.
As a result of this bug Maxsea have sent me a few thousand pounds worth of replacement Mapmedia charts free of charge. This gesture aside I believe that Maxsea have a duty of care and should ensure that clients exposed to this bug understand that what they see on their screen is not accurate.
If you use Maxsea 12.5.3 and CMAP then you can either downgrade versions (and loose other functionality) or hassle them and try and get some free Mapmedia charts.
Rant over..
Paul

This problem has been clearly identified here at MaxSea and our developers have been working on a corrective solution. Solution has been found now and is under testing. It should be available in the next MaxSea 12.6 version in the coming weeks.
We understand it is a real problem, that's why we have immediately worked on it. Just one remark, the bug appears when over zooming. Vector charts allow you to over zoom, but it shouldn't, as it seems to show reality and gives the impression of details, but in fact it gives you false information.

Hi Paul,
First of all, sorry for my childish English; I'm Belgian and therefore not having a master in Shakespeare's language !
Your site is really well done and full of interesting stuff, I really appreciate your job and even more to share it in such a way.
I'm planning (we are actually already registered) with a friend of mine (we are sailing for about 7 years together and mainly racing on FC8) to take part to the 'Transquadra 2008-2009' on a JOD35 recently bought.
You understand now why this interest :)
We are of course seeking for all possible info, tips,... in all fields but especially in a first stage (as we'll take the yacht out of water for the required preparation this winter) about water ballast and gyro pilot…
Your detailed description about your water ballast is impressive. We'll for sure study it in detail. I'm reading in your September 06, 2006 'Petit Bateau' race story you had a pilot problem….
Would be nice to stay in touch to exchange experiences, and for sure, some time, somewhere, we'll meet at sea
I'll visit your site from time to time, you can have a look to ours ;)
Getting late now, talk to you soon
Cheers
Bernard & Alain

Hi,
another real dangerous problem with MaxSea 12.5.3 and C-map NT Max: If you click on a rocksymbol, you get information about sounding of that rock, if you now click on the next rock - may be on your route -, the informationwindow shows the same, now normaly false, sounding as before and does not change to the aktuel sounding. There is the same problem with lateral bouys. If you click a red one and next a green one, the information you get now is, the (green)bouy is a red one. Singel comment of MaxSea:...we know .. in the next releas it will be korrected. No warnings nowhere!!
