The Great Escape

image1215434006.jpgThe plan was sound. Following my OSTAR disaster Jan and I thought we would get away for a week. Our chosen destination Iceland. I walked into a shop for juice and found this!!

Bigger, Better, Stronger

image1812141435.jpgNot that I am obsessed or anything but I popped in this afternoon to check on progress. As I opened the hatch my nose was hit by the smell adhesive.

As you can see from the picture new bulkhead higher and thicker. Same both sides. Not long now.

Repair work underway

image1049240927.jpgI arrived at Suffolk Yacht Harbour this evening to find that work had started early on the bulk head repairs.

Both sides have been ground back and the extent of the damage has now been exposed.

I am told it will take at least a week to sort out and am now thinking about what we can do for the rest of the season.

Last Leg

Have just turned at Long Sand Head towards Cork Sands off of Harwich. I can see the cranes of the container port in the distance. To my left a wind farm and to my right the south cardinal mark Trinity. There is little wind and a slight rolling swell.

I know that I will be home this evening and while looking forward to that I cannot help but wish I were still racing.I envy those that are. I have found myself checking fleet positions when phone signal permits and privately spuring on my favourites ( they know who they are).

The trip home has been tiring. There has been either no wind at all or what little there was would be on the nose.

Time to start thinking about the repairs, the jobs list and what to do for the rest of the season.

Sunrise

image46860521.jpgCurrently 2.5 hours from the needles. Plan is to nip into Yarmouth (IoW) and get some more fuel. There has been little wind on route back to Suffolk so far. What wind there has been has been on the nose. Consequently progress is slow.

Cork to Lands End

Currently 15 nautical miles from lands end. Started at 04:50 this morning with an asym up. Then got headed and went to white sails. Passage logged with Falmouth Coast Guard.

Boat ok aside from stuff you already know about. I am depressed about ostar retirement.
