A Weigh Day
One of the other mildly upsetting facts about the OSTAR was the rating difference between the two JOD’s. Barry had sensibly gone to the trouble ahead of the race of getting himself organized, weighed and measured while I remained with what I had inherited from the original one design cert even though I had blissfully added ton’s of gear.
On Tuesday of this week Peter, our local RORC measurer, arrived at Suffolk Yacht Harbour and started the process of measuring and weighing the boat. The Sunday before Emily, Jan and I had packed everything into boxes and at 0630 on the day in question I took everything off of the boat, the pontoon was covered with sails and gear.
The results of this were quite interesting and all made sense. The trim had shifted aft with the bow overhang up and the stern overhang down. This is most probably due to the permanently installed hydraulic ram system and beefed up water ballast bits and bobs at the rear of the boat. Weight wise she had understandably put quite a few pounds on.
In terms of my IRC certificate this was all good news and my rating came down by 10 dots to …. [drum roll please] 1.024
Jan and I are competing in the next two EAORA races as a shorthanded entry.
